SOLIDLINE HELPS TO RAISE OVER $30,000 FOR BEARS CARE

Ten years ago the Midtown Athletic Club in Palatine, IL decided to host a 5K run to benefit Bears Care, an organization committed to improving the quality of life for people in the Chicagoland community. They came to us at SolidLine Media in the hopes of acquiring our sponsorship. We're proud to say that this September we sponsored the Midtown Athletic Club Fitness 5K for the tenth time, and we sent a camera crew to document the inspiring event SolidLine-style. The video we cut together will be sent to fellow sponsors, and the footage will also be displayed on the Jumbotron at Soldier Field during upcoming Bears games.

"It has been great to have SolidLine as a sponsor of our 5K for ten years in a row," states Midtown Director of Marketing Robyn Kove. "We're excited to have raised over $200,000 in the last decade for Bears Care to help those in need in the Chicago community. Thanks SolidLine!"

The Midtown 5K proceeds go to Chicagoans, especially disadvantaged children and their families, youth athletics, and medical research and awareness programs focusing on breast and ovarian cancer.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED IN 2012 SLM CHILI COOK-OFF

Last week the SolidLine Media crew rose to their greatest challenge yet: The Chili Cook-Off. The brave SolidLine Director of Social Media Marcus Leshock served as official guinea pig...er...judge, and we are proud to report that the chili has been tasted, the votes have been cast and trophies awarded.

SOLIDLINE CELEBRATES THANKSGIVING WITH A SPICY CHALLENGE

SolidLine celebrated the upcoming holiday early with the annual SLM Thanksgiving Feast in the Atrium of the SolidLine headquarters. The Indian-themed meal, which was catered by Curried, spawned yet another food eating challenge for SolidLine Editor John Courchane. After John had eaten three super spicy samosas, the SLM crew began to challenge him to eat the remaining seven leftover samosas. Unable to turn down any challenge, John quickly accepted. He was given 15 minutes to finish all seven samosas. Greg and Michael even kicked in a $100 cash reward to 'spice' up the deal.

What happened? Find out in this short video:

The New Puzzler!

After a seriously heated chili debate, we decided to declare November SolidLine's Official Chili Month. From here on out, we will be commemorating every November with a cook-off dedicated to one of the world's top-rated comfort foods. As with many popular entrées, chili's origin is rather disputable. But we were able to find some hard facts regarding the delicious dish...

The Question:

How did chili get its name?

A. It was invented in Chile

B. It's short for "chile con carne" or "peppers with meat"

C. Sir Humphrey Von Chili provided the first documented recipe

D. You eat it when it's chilly outside

Think you know the answer?  Email your response into puzzler@solidlinemedia.com.  If you're the first correct respondent, you will be rewarded with a SolidLine-branded coaster set, baseball cap, AND a warm and fuzzy fleece! Good luck and thanks for playing The SolidLine Puzzler!

MEET THE CREW

BrocCafe

2 Qs with SolidLine Fall Production Intern, Broc Pachesa

What's your favorite part about SLM and the internship?

The ability to express my thoughts going into a project and seeing them come to life. Recently I cut together SLM's Chili Cook-Off video. When discussing what we wanted to do for graphics, I jokingly threw a suggestion out that was not only heard, but actually came to life and used in the final version. Make sure to check that video out!

Are your dreams coming true here?

Completely. Video Production is what I went to school for and being able to work in the field is reassuring. I'm also thankful for getting to work on Avid -- being able to learn this software is just another step up that SolidLine is giving me on my competition.

ASK THE CREW

Describe your perfect Thanksgiving chili!

Mike Petrik, Art Director

The Roseanne Chili has a perfect blend of heat and sweet. An amalgamation of flavors to illuminate the tongue and ignite the imagination. Two bowls in, and you will be clamoring for your digestive system to hurry up and make more room. Ahh, the Roseanne. I'm surprised Sting hasn't written a song about it yet.

Ed Boe, Director of Photography / Editor

My favorite Thanksgiving Chili is of the ill gotten variety. Find a good, award-winning chili, and put your name on it!

Kevin Wright, Producer

My favorite Thanksgiving Chili would be turkey Chili from Fresh Choice in Old Town (RIP) served to me by my perfect wife.

Marcus Leshock, Writer

I eat a big pot of Greg's chili. It makes me thankful for the other 364 days of the year I don't have to eat it.

Natalie Mueller, Writer

Homemade pumpkin-turkey chili. It is fall after all; tis the season to pumpkin & turkey all things!

John Courchane, Editor

My favorite kind of Thanksgiving chili is AWARD WINNING Thanksgiving chili.

Adam Marzec, Motion Graphics Artist

My favorite Thanksgiving chili is mashedpotatoturkeygravy-

pumpkinpie chili. What's better than combining all my favorite holiday items into my chili?

Allison Miller, Production Coordinator

"I'm gonna make some of that four-star, happy trails, rootin'-tootin' chili of mine" -Tim Taylor

Broc Pachesa, Fall Production Intern

EWW chili. It's all about the beer!

Ryan Nice, Fall Production Intern

Ed's "award winning" chili.

Michael Kromm, Director of Post Production

How about Turkey Chili - now that's original!

Greg Vass, Executive Producer

Based on the overwhelmingly amazing feedback as "Fan Favorite" from the crew and all who have tasted and loved it (MINUS Marcus of course who clearly has no taste buds) I think that Fix-It-Greg Chili provides a great balance for any holiday.
