National Postdoctoral Association (NPA)

The Importance of Writing Skills in Tech-Related Fields
Back when I was a grad student in anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley, I taught my own writing course. Its theme was medicine, so a lot of pre-med majors signed up. Since it was an intensive summer course, writing assignments were due at the end of each week. Perhaps unsurprisingly, students complained about that, sometimes vociferously.

The psychologist Jerome Bruner posited that there are two modes of thought. The first -- "paradigmatic" -- is the mode of science, of logically describing and explaining the world. It categorizes and conceptualizes, arranges in systems, and tests for empirical truth. It is fundamentally concerned with verifiability, with establishing the way things are.

My Top 5 Killer Interview Questions
We're all familiar with the typical interview jargon, questions like "tell me about yourself" and "what's your five year plan?" that you're almost guaranteed to be asked in any interview you attend. Preparation is key so I'd expect every candidate to prepare answers for these sorts of questions, but you'd be surprised at how many people trip up here because they clearly haven't thought long enough about a strategic, informative and concise answer.
