ICYMI: CLTCC offers free robotics summer camp for Cenla students

ALEXANDRIA, La--This summer, Central Louisiana Technical Community College will be hosting free robotics summer camps for incoming and current high school students at its seven campuses.

The 2015 Robotics Summer Camps will seek to promote fun learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics for three days from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Students will get into to teams to build and program their own robot to compete against other robots.

CLTCC's willingness to put on a STEM-subject matter summer camp for free in all of its campuses demonstrates its continued commitment to Fort Polk Progress' Education Initiative, a list of educational targets to improve the quality of academics and well-being of students that attend regional schools.

According to CLTCC Acting Chancellor Jimmy Sawtelle, the camps are funded by grants from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act.

"These camps are about getting the next generation of workers interested in STEM career fields, which will help meet industry needs," Sawtelle said. "We want to leverage career and technical education to deliver STEM competencies."

"Central Louisiana Technical Community College - Lamar Salter Campus supports the community initiatives to provide opportunities for our local youth to participate in STEM focused learning experiences," said Geralyn Janice, Lamar Salter Campus Dean said. "This robotics camp is a demonstration of that community support and an awesome opportunity."

Space is limited, so make sure to register soon if you would like your child to attend the camp. Camps will be offered in Leesville, Alexandria, Cottonport, Ferriday, Jena, Oakdale, and Winnfield. Daily attendance is mandatory. Lunch will be provided during camp.
