Leesville, LA.--South Polk Elementary is looking to the local business community to help support its upcoming Math and Science Night set for 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday November 20, 2014. The event is open to all second, third, and fourth grade children as well as their families and will provide a night of educational fun.
South Polk Elementary teachers have already done two fundraisers, a jeans day and a Scholastic book fair, to help raise money for the event, but more is still needed to provide raffle items and small prizes for students. Organizers hope to provide prizes such as math and science books, math games, science activity kits, and a microscope for the raffle.
"Aside from the raffle, we also want to be able to provide each student with some small prize for their participation," said Jennifer Kennison, a teacher at South Polk and one of many organizers for the event. Pencils and pens from local businesses would make appropriate small prizes, she added.
During the event, science fair projects from South Polk's own second and third graders will be on display in the cafeteria. In addition other activities will be available, including four math stations dealing with different math subjects.
Refreshments will also be provided.
