LEESVILLE- Fort Polk Progress congratulates the Vernon Parish School District for its report card, released recently by the Louisiana Department of Education. The report card summarizes and evaluates academic achievement for the 2013-2014 school year, part of the state's long-term transition to higher expectations, according to information at www.louisianabelieves,com, the department's website.
The Louisiana Department of Education transitioned to a new scoring system last school year. This scoring system uses a 150-point scale measuring growth in various categories. Under the 150 point scale, districts and school scores designate the following: 100-150=A; 85-99.9=B; 70-84.9=C; 50-69.9=D; and 0-49.9=F. The Vernon Parish School District scored an "A" rating for the second year in a row. The district score grew to a 105.1 from 104.6 last year. Vernon Parish is still among the highest scoring districts in the state.
"We have incredibly dedicated educators and support staff that support the schools in our region," said Fort Polk Progress Chairman, Michael Reese. "These scores are evidence of the hard work and commitment educators invest in our students every day. In addition, we are very thankful for the partnership that is taking place right now between the school system, Ft Polk Progress, Ft Polk leadership, military families, chamber of commerce and other partners to create a comprehensive plan that will assist in continuing this improvement, providing the Army the best education opportunities anywhere.." "I'm excited about these high scores," said Superintendent of Vernon Parish Schools James Williams. "They are a result of the dedication and hard work by all stakeholders. Our schools are continuing to do an outstanding job of educating the children in our communities. We have excellent and caring teachers and staff who have high expectations for all students. Our students are motivated and attentive and come to school each day ready to learn. Our parents are supportive and recognize the importance of daily attendance and student achievement. The community understands the necessity of a strong public education system and supports our schools in all aspects of learning. I would also like to recognize the cooperation and support of the Vernon Parish School Board that has always considered academics as a top priority in our system. All stakeholders work tirelessly together to provide a quality education for all Vernon Parish students." To view the district performance scores, clickhere.
