Fort Polk Progress urges members to support Push Ups for Charity event

LEESVILLE--Fort Polk Progress, as part of its goal to improve quality of life for Fort Polk soldiers, urges its members to support Push Ups for Charity by either donating to or by participating in the event from 9:30 a.m. to noon this Saturday, July 26, at Wampus Cat Stadium on the campus of Leesville High School.

The school is located at 502 Berry Dr, Leesville, LA 71446. The Military Affairs Committee of the Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Push Ups for Charity event. Although this is the inaugural event in the state of Louisiana, it is the fifth year the event has been held nationwide. Push Ups for Charity gives Americans the opportunity to show their support of the 1.4 million men and women who are currently serving in our armed forces.

"This event gives all of us a chance to give back to our soldiers and help 'The Boot Campaign' which helps veterans and wounded heroes," said Anne T. Causey, executive director of the Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce. "We expect to have a lot of soldiers show up to do push ups to honor their fellow fallen soldiers."

Push Ups for Charity's goal is to have Americans complete a quarter million push ups and raise $1 million to serve troops through the  Boot Campaign, which helps veterans by providing jobs, housing, education, wellness, urgent assistance and family support.

"I urge our members to become involved in the event," said Fort Polk Progress Chairman Michael Reese. "It is through events like these that we're able to show our veterans and wounded heroes just how much we appreciate them and their families."

To participate, visit www.crowdrise.com/HomeofHeroesPUC and click on donate. Then, follow the on-screen prompts to donate the amount you choose. You can also help solicit other sponsors by sharing the information on social media and with your contacts.

Causey stressed that although she anticipates great support from the area's active duty and retired soldiers, the event is open to everyone who wants to participate.

"We need our community to show their love and support for our soldiers by coming out to cheer them on," Causey said. "What better way to demonstrate how much we care about saving Fort Polk than to stand and cheer for our troops. This is the only event of its kind being held in Louisiana and will send a strong message about how much we love our soldiers."
