Fort Polk Progress announces South Polk Elementary as winner of $1,000

LEESVILLE, La.-South Polk Elementary is the winner of the $1,000 for having the most people in attendance at the recent Fort Polk Progress Education Initiative.

 

Of the approximately 700 people in attendance at the March 27 Symposium, 21 elementary, middle and high schools were represented, with 73 attendees indicating they represented South Polk Elementary.

 

"We couldn't be happier to award South Polk Elementary with a check for $1,000," said Fort Polk Progress Chairman Michael Reese Thursday morning during the Vernon Parish School Board's regular meeting.

 

Accepting the check on behalf of South Polk Elementary was principal Charlie Balthrop.

Fort Polk Progress is a regional community organization that takes a proactive stance toward Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) by maintaining relationships and partnering with decision makers in Congress, at the Pentagon and at the state level, ensuring that the most up to date information concerning Fort Polk and the surrounding communities is used in decisions concerning the base. In addition, Fort Polk Progress actively markets the base to the military as the most cost effective place to provide soldiers with the best training possible and strives to help ensure the best possible quality of life for soldiers, civilians and their families.
