The Chamber of SWLA recognized Michael Reese last night in appreciation of outstanding civic contributions through Fort Polk Progress during the chamber's 110th Annual Banquet. He was presented with the 2013 Civic Service Award. Congratulations to Mike and the Fort Polk Progress Team!

In mid-February, Fort Polk Progress board members will attend the Association of Defense Communities Installation Innovation Forum 2014 in San Antonio. The three-day event will focus on building resilient communities and installations. Meetings with key army leaders will help us continue to stay prepared and informed on budget issues.

Also in February, Fort Polk Progress will participate in D.C. Mardis Gras where the theme will be Louisiana's contribution to the nation with an emphasis on the military. During the trip, Fort Polk Progress plans to meet with some of the same people that we worked with in the Pentagon during Army 2020 to include the representatives that came to Leesville/Fort Polk for the listening session. We are also scheduling meetings with Defense Education officials (DODEA) to share information about our education initiative and our exceptional ratings at our military schools.

We continue to make progress on the Fort Polk Progress Education Initiative. In the coming weeks, we'll begin distributing a survey to help us obtain information about what concerns parents about their children's education. We'll use that information to help us plan informative break-out sessions for the Education Symposium set for March 27. Mark your calendars for stellar educational event!
