The Center for Community Health Workforce (CCHW) is a broad-based network of service providers, community health workers (CHWs), government partners, and other stakeholders from the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region. CCHW was conceptualized by the Institute for Public Health Innovation (IPHI) as a means to promote the development and sustainability of the CHW workforce and service models through resource sharing, education, and policy activities. The CCHW Connection provides a platform to share information on a monthly basis. If you would like to contribute to the monthly e-bulletin, please reply to CCHW@institutephi.org.

The DC Prevention and Medicaid Taskforce
The DC Prevention and Medicaid Taskforce held its second meeting on July 11th with over 27 participants representing community health and social service, managed care, academic, policy advocacy, and CHW professional development organizations, among others. A significant outcome of this meeting was the formation of two work groups dedicated to advancing the Taskforce's work. The CHW Workforce Development Work Group is focused on formulating recommendations on community health worker scope of practice, standards, core competencies, and credentialing. The Financing Work Group is focused on formulating recommendations for a Medicaid State Plan Amendment related to financing preventive health services provided by non-licensed professionals. The next meeting of the DC Taskforce is expected to be in mid-August and all are welcome. For more details contact CCHW@institutephi.org.

Focus on CHWs included in Virginia's State Innovation Model (SIM) application
Under the leadership of the Virginia Center for Health Innovation, Virginia stakeholders have submitted an application to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for a one-year planning grant through the SIM Initiative. A Model Design Award would support continued work on the Virginia Health Innovation Plan to help Virginia achieve the Triple Aim of improving the patient experience and population health while reducing costs. The application includes a notable CHW component which IPHI would lead in the event CMS awards a grant to Virginia.
