SENIOR PARENT MEETING Wednesday, May 14 in the Cafeteria at 7PM. At this final senior parent meeting, the topic is how to help your students transition to their next step: college; work; gap year, etc. Over coffee and dessert we will have a panel of parents from the class of 2013 share their tips, what they wish they had known and answer your questions. BHS COLLEGE ATHLETICS NIGHT is being held on Wednesday May 14th from 7:00pm - 8:30pm in the Schluntz Gym. We have invited a panel of college coaches as well as an admission officer to answer your questions regarding the process of becoming a college athlete as well as the life of an athlete in college. THIS THURSDAY - THE FUTURE OF LEARNING IN A NETWORKED WORLD presented by Justin Reich on Thursday, May 15, 7pm - 8:30pm in the BHS Weintraub Atrium. Mr Reich is a Richard L. Menschel HarvardX Research Fellow, a Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, and Co-founder of EdTechTeacher. Will the instructional practices that schools have honed over the last century serve students well in a rapidly changing world? STUDENT DIRECTED DRAMA FESTIVAL Friday, May 16 @ 7:30pm in the Black Box Theater, and Saturday May 17 11 am - 6 pm in the Roberts/Dubbs Auditorium. The Brookline High School Drama Society presents its annual two-day festival of Student Directed Plays.
SING OUT YOUTH MUSIC FESTIVAL Sunday, May 18th at 4pm in the BHS Auditorium. This event is a fundraiser for Upstage Lung Cancer. The event features performances by Northeastern's Unity Gospel Ensemble, PALS Children's Chorus, New Best Western Band and BHS A Capella groups: Note-a-fly, Testostatones and Perfect Pitch. SOPHOMORE CLASS PARENT MEETING (Class of 2016) on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 7 PM in the Cafeteria. The topic is: What to expect next year. There will be Junior Student panel and a pot luck dinner. Looking ahead to junior year, this will be the last meeting for sophomore year. The panel discussion will be led by Dean Anthony Meyer and will be a discussion with and amongst a cross section of representatives from the current junior class. THE PROM IS LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY It takes a community to make this event a success! On June 2 BHS seniors and their guests will enjoy a magical night, and parents and BHS are working together to once again create an amazing - and SAFE - after party! The panel discussion will be led by Dean Scott Butchart, and will be a discussion with and amongst a cross section of representatives, from the current Senior class.
THE BHS ATHLETICS BANQUET will be held at BU's George Sherman Union, Thursday on 5/22/14 @ 6:30pm. Tickets may be purchased in the BHS Athletics Office (open 8am - 4pm, M-F). Prices for tickets purchased between April 14th-May 14th are $20/letterwinner and $40/guest. Tickets purchased after May 14th will be $25/letterwinner and $50/guest, on a limited availability basis only. If you are planning to attend, please purchase tickets before the regular May 14th deadline.
MAY IS NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH According to the most recent student health survey, nearly one in four BHS teens reported being depressed (feeling sad and hopeless for more than 2 weeks), yet only a quarter of those adolescents get professional help, often because of the stigma still clouding issues of mental health. BHS FALL '14 SPORTS REGISTRATION is now open at Brookline athletics. BHS Fall Sports begin the week of August 18, 2014. More information and registration instructions are posted on brooklinewarriors.net.

COMMUNITY MEETING ON THE NEW STANDARDIZED TESTS
On Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Brookline High School Humanities lab, 3rd Floor. Brookline Educators Union and Citizens for Public Schools are co-sponsoring a community meeting to try out and then discuss the PARCC test, a new computer-based test intended to replace the MCAS. BROOKLINE BIKES BEACON BICYCLE PARADE Sunday, May 18, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Amory Park. Bike safety checks, giveaways, community groups, food to purchase, Hubway membership raffle, and more. Parade starts promptly at 1:00 p.m. It's fun. It's free. It's five miles. It's family friendly. Ages 8 to 88+. We need High School students to help with safety at intersections. FRIDAY NIGHT BIKES Cycle in a group through the nighttime streets of Brookline. Leaving from the Brookline Teen Center Friday nights at 7:30 pm.
