FRESHMAN PARENT GUIDANCE NIGHT FEB 25 All freshman parents should join Dean Scott Butchart to learn about course selection for next year. This may seem early for freshman parents, but course selections begin in early spring and changes cannot be made after May 1. Please make every effort to attend. The meeting is in the MLK room on Tuesday February 25 from 7pm-8:30pm. Please contact Scott Butchart or Freshman PTO Reps if you have questions.

BHS SPECIAL EDUCATION BI-MONTHLY MEETING All parents of students who are in grades 9-12 or who attend the transition program at BHS are invited to attend the BHS Special Education Bi-Monthly Meeting on Thursday, February 27th. We will meet in the MLK Room 7:45 - 8:45 AM. The focus for this meeting will be testing and accommodations for students who have an IEP. Information will be shared about MCAS, MCAS Alternate Assessment and the process of getting accommodations for the PSAT'S, SAT'S and ACT'S. If you have any questions contact Wendy MacMillan or Mary Lynn Pergantis.

SIGN UP FOR SWS (School Within A School). Interested students should drop by the SWS office, room 400, to sign up for the SWS Lottery, pick up an information packet and ask any questions they may have about the process. The SWS Lottery sign-up is open until February 28, 2014.
Brookline High School - Upcoming/Ongoing
CHAMBER MUSIC Please join us on Monday, March 10 at 7:30pm in Dance Studio 1 for the Chamber Music Concert. Members of the BHS Orchestra will perform duets of J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Johan Havorsen, a Franz Shubert string quartet, Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings and more.

AUDITION INFORMATION FOR PERFORMING ARTS 2014-2015 
Camerata: March 11, 12 and 13 after school in Chorus room (324). Contact Mr. Driscoll for an audition time. 
 
Needs Improvment: March 13 and 14, 3pm to 4:30pm in the BHS Auditorium. Contact Mark VanDerzee if you have questions.
 
Jazz Band: March 17 and March 24, 3pm to 4pm in BHS Band Room (120). Contact Carolyn Castellano.
 
Intermediate and Advance level dance classes: March 28, 3pm to 4pm in Dance Studio One in BHS Tappan Gym. Contact Christien Polos.

SWS ART GALA The SWS pymwymi (put your money where your mouth is) committee and Art for Rosie's Place is hosting an Art Gala on March 12th to benefit Rosie's place. We are collecting art work from students to sell or display at the Gala. Please leave sculptures, drawings, jewelry, paintings or anything else in the collection boxes located in the atrium and UA building and fill out the form near the box. Email us if you have any questions or have a delicate piece of work! 
 
SOCIAL JUSTICE MOVIE SERIES "Waiting for Superman" on Thursday, March 13th in the MLK Room at 6:30. "Wasteland" on Wednesday, April 30th in Room 384 at 6:30. 
 
COLLEGE FAIR Save the date! Tuesday, March 18 at 6PM. 
 
STEPS TO SUCCESS in partnership with the Public Schools of Brookline, the Brookline Housing Authority and the Brookline Community Foundation, supports students residing in low income housing starting in the 4th grade through post graduate education. Steps to Success will host a fundraiser on Wednesday, March 26th. For more information please visit: STS website.

BROOKLINE READS The kick-off event for this year's Brookline Reads, focusing on Defending Jacob by William Landay, is a panel discussion, "Born to Be Bad? Ethics, Parenting, and the Law." Participants include an attorney, a judge, and two psychiatrists who share expertise in the legal, emotional, parental, and ethical issues surrounding violent juveniles. Award-winning investigative reporter and mystery writer Hank Phillippi Ryan will moderate. Main Library, Hunneman Hall, Monday, February 24 at 7 PM.
 
TEEN DATING Leaving Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month on a positive note, most teens do, in fact, experience healthy relationships, using powerful tools they've often learned from their parents, tools such as respect, trust and compromise. Reinforce with your teen the importance of healthy relationships and help reverse the trend of escalating verbal, emotional and physical abuse among teens. BOOK TALK - LEAVING RUSSIA Join us Thursday, March 6th from  6:30 -8 PM in the Driscoll Library for an evening with Brookline parent, Maxim D. Shrayer, author of Leaving Russia: A Jewish Story (2013). Born in Moscow in 1967 in a writer's family, Shrayer is a professor at Boston College and a bilingual writer and translator. Sponsored by the Driscoll PTO, this event is free and open to the public. Students are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
 
BROOKLINE READS PROGRAM On Wednesday, March 12 Brookline Reads presents "An Evening With William Landy", in the Brookline High School Auditorium at 7:00 pm. 

 

BROOKLINE TEEN CENTER FUNDRAISER Saturday, March 1st from 7:00 - 10:30 pm. More information may be found on the teen center website
