THANKSGIVING BREAK begins on Wednesday, November 27th. School will be dismissed at noon. Classes resume on Monday, December 2nd. Have a happy and safe holiday!
POWDERPUFF FOOTBALL GAME ON WEDNESDAY 11/27 AT PARSONS FIELD Every year after the last class on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, senior girls challenge junior girls to a flag football game. The festivities begin with a pep rally in the Schluntz gym and move on to Northeastern's Parsons field on Kent Street. All are welcome to attend.

WELLNESS COMMITTEE Did you know that according to DrugFree.org, less than half of teens with mental health disorders get the help they need? On Dec. 5, Brookline's Wellness Committee summit, "Youth & Mental Health: Balancing the Wellness Wheel," is gathering together a select group of school administrators and staff, public health professionals, community members, Brookline parents and students to generate strategies that will help develop a "whole child" approach to youth mental health and overall wellbeing. Be on the lookout for the post-summit Parent Update on Youth & Mental Health.
SEX AND THE STUDENT Thursday, December 5th 7 - 8:30 PM; Location TBD (open to parents in all grades) Sponsored by the PTO, with Amy Cody, Director of Parent Education, Planned Parenthood. Parents play an important role in communicating about sexual health and safe choices with our teens. This presentation will include strategies and tips for starting the conversations plus an overview of information about sexually transmitted infections and protection methods, healthy relationships and dating, and review the concept of mutual consent.
BHS INTRAMURALS Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays 3:00-4:30. Soccer in the Pavilion with Mr. Epstein. Basketball in Gym 1 with Ms. Toney. Fitness Center with Ms. Sutton.
WARRIOR RUN Sunday, December 1, 2013; 9:30 a.m. at Larz Anderson Park. Join the BHS boys and girls cross-country teams as they come together with the Brookline community to run the 5th annual Warrior Run. Participants will run the 2.76 mile varsity cross-country course and help raise money for the Special Olympics and for the teams. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the race start (at the soccer fields along Goddard Avenue). Pre-race registration costs $10, and includes 10 raffle tickets. Race-day registration costs $15. To request the pre-registration form, contact Michael Glennon.
PTO STANDARDIZED TESTING INFORMATIONAL NIGHT - Save the date! Wednesday, December 11 7:00pm - 8:30pm Auditorium.
BHS 2020 PRESENTATION In September, Headmaster Deborah Holman presented the BHS 2020 vision at parent meetings. BROOKLINE TEEN GRANTMAKERS PROGRAM The Brookline Community Foundation is now recruiting high school students who live or go to school in Brookline to participate in our 2014 Brookline Teen Grantmakers program. This program, which runs from mid January to early June, provides an hands on learning experience that teaches teens about philanthropy and the fundamentals of grantmaking. Participants will learn more about their community, explore their personal values, and work together to address issues in Brookline through strategic grantmaking. The application deadline is December 2, 2013. The application process will also include a brief, in-person interview.
