Brookline High School - This Week
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY INFORMATION NIGHT FOR PARENTS on Tuesday, 10/29 at 7pm in the MLK room. If you want to know what the after-school options are for your teen, this would be a great meeting to attend. It is open to parents from all grades but it is particularly useful for those with freshman and sophomores. Dean Scott Butchart will be joined by Matt Cooney from the Teen Center, Intramural Sports Coordinator Teddi Jacobs and Advisory Coordinator Jen Martin. Together they will discuss the many extracurricular and after-school activities available at BHS.

VOLUNTEERS WELCOME AND NEEDED for the BHS 21st Century Event, Saturday November 16th. For those who would like to participate in the event 'hands on' we are looking for volunteers. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know more people within the BHS community while helping out an organization that does so many things that benefit the teachers and students. If you are interested and/or would like more details, please contact Cyndi Drake.

NEWS FROM B-PEN (Brookline Parent Education Network)

Many of us tend to think of domestic violence as an adult issue that is centered in the home. But in fact, teens are especially vulnerable to unhealthy relationships as they navigate the uncharted waters of making new connections and gaining experience for more lasting relationships in the future. Recent stats show that one in three teens will experience an abusive relationship. As parents, we are vital role models and voices of wisdom for helping our children forge these relationships in ways that are safe and healthy. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which offers an excellent opportunity to talk to your teen about what makes a healthy, respectful relationship. Click for more information about healthy relationships, or visit www.B-PEN.org.

ONCE A YEAR PARENTS GATHER TO SUPPORT INNOVATION AT BHS: Brookline High School's 21st Century Fund has already invested nearly $9 million to launch and sustain 17 programs at the high school, and we need new parent involvement and support to continue this work. Please join other interested parents and community leaders at our annual Gala, which takes place at BHS on Saturday, November 16th at 6:30pm. Tickets are going quickly and we expect to sell out before the event. If you are interested in attending, please make your reservation today at bhs21stcenturyfund.org.
