10th ANNUAL COLLEGE ESSAY WORKSHOP The College Essay Workshop was once again a tremendous success! One hundred fifty-five seniors participated this year and each made progress on the essay writing process. Heartfelt thanks go to all the parent volunteers who worked with students in the classrooms as well as to those who helped out with the general logistics of the event. Many thanks also to all the teachers who worked that Saturday morning diligently leading workshop sections. A special thank you to Elon Fischer and Rob Primmer, of the BHS English Department, for coordinating teachers for the workshop and for creating and refining teaching materials for the students and staff. As always, we truly appreciate the support of the BHS main office, copy center, and custodial staff in helping make this event run smoothly. All of this was made possible through the generous support of the BHS PTO.
HELP OUT WITH FUTURE ESSAY WORKSHOPS As we plan next year's workshop, we are looking to train people interested in co-chairing this event in the future. Please let us know if you would like to become involved. Deb Abner, Nancy Blumberg, Emeshe Juhász-Mininberg, Cassia Wyner - Class of 2014 BHS College Essay Workshop Co-Chairs.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

The Brookline High School Council is looking for new parent members. As mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the School Council, a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, faculty, students and a community member, assists the headmaster in preparing a school improvement plan to enact the high school and district strategic plans.
School Council members are chosen by the BHS parent body through an election administered by the PTO on Back-To-School-Night, which is October 17. This year we are looking for 3 new parent representatives. Parents may nominate themselves or another parent, and the three highest vote getters will serve a 2-year term. If we only have 3 volunteers, we will not hold an election. All candidates are asked to submit a brief biographical sketch that will be available prior to the vote.
The first School Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 29 at 7:30 am in the Headmaster's office. Meetings will be the third Tuesday of every month through June.
If this is something that interests you, please contact Nancy Parker, PTO co-president.
Thank you, Deborah Holman BHS Headmaster |
