New Orleans Spotlight

Looking for something fun to do off-campus? Check out the Louisiana Seafood Festival  on September 2-4 at City Park!

I hope this back-to-school edition of the Navigator E-Newsletter finds you well as you settle into Tulane and New Orleans! As a new student, our hope is that this monthly newsletter helps keep you in the loop about academic deadlines, upcoming campus programming, events in the city, useful resources, and other information that will help your transition.

While this is all very exciting, the start of a new chapter can also prove to be a bit overwhelming at times.  Please know that our office, along with many others around campus, are here for you. Along with that, your Orientation Coordinators from Fall Welcome, your Resident Advisors, and other student leaders around campus are here to make you feel comfortable and successful at Tulane.

As always, please reach out to us should you have any questions, comments, or concerns! We are available by email at orientation@tulane.edu and by phone at (504) 865-5810. Or stop by Suite G11 in the Student Organization Center in the LBC. You're always welcome.

Roll Wave,

THRIVE AT TULANE
After a relaxing summer it's time to get back to the grind! In the fast-paced lifestyle of college it is often difficult to find a healthy balance between school and personal life. Here are some techniques that will help you de-stress and thrive at Tulane:

Get Enough Sleep
A good night's sleep will give you the energy to tackle the day's stress more easily. Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

Eat Mindfully
Use intention when deciding what to eat in your new environment. A nutritious diet can help counter the impact of stress by boosting the immune system and lowering blood pressure. Meet with our campus nutritionist at The Health Center to plan for the semester.

Manage Your Time
Find a tool to keep track of your busy life. This can be a day planner or a calendar on your phone or computer. Set deadlines and review syllabus for important dates.

Forget Perfection
Talk about pressure! Learn to feel good about doing the best you can.

Check In With Yourself
You deserve time for yourself. Listen to music, watch your favorite show, talk with a friend, or practice mindfulness.

Use Your Resources
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stop by CAPS for a counseling session or visit The Well for mindfulness programs and free massages.
