New Orleans Spotlight
Get ready to run! The 10th Annual "Running of the Bulls" is coming up on July 9, 2016. This event features hundreds of rollerskaters and "bulls" (known here as "Rollerbulls" - skaters with "horns on their helmets and plastic bats in their hands") playing homage to the Encirerro of Pamplona, Spain. The event features over 18,000 runners - check out more info here!

We have successfully concluded New Student Orientation and enjoyed meeting almost 1500 members of the Class of 2020 over the course of our nine sessions. Thank you for sharing your NSO experiences with us on social media (#TUNSO16), contributing to our Snapchat story, and completing our program evaluation.

For those of you who were unable to join us for NSO, be on the lookout for a copy of the NSO Guidebook to hit your permanent home addresses by mid-July. You can also view an electronic copy of the Guidebook HERE. This is a great resource to reference often throughout the summer and even your first year. Don't lose it! You can also view our New Student Checklist by clicking the link to the left - it's a great resource to help you ensure that you have everything complete and are ready to roll (wave!)

Finally, I am thrilled to announce that our office is expanding. Beginning today, our new name is the Office of New Student & Leadership Programs. We're excited to expand our role in supporting not only your transition into Tulane but also your four (or more) years at Tulane through leadership development opportunities. More to come on this throughout the academic year.

As always, please reach out to us should you have any questions, comments, or concerns! We are available by email at orientation@tulane.edu or by phone at (504) 865-5810.

Roll Wave,
Brad

New Student Orientation

We have welcomed over 1,500 new students to campus this year during the nine sessions of New Student Orientation. Our Orientation Team Leaders (OTLs) loved working with y'all and look forward to seeing you again in August during Fall Welcome. Check out this video (starring the OTLs and many of you!) for session highlights.

Fall Welcome Highlight:

First Year Reading Project
The Tulane Reading Project has been a university tradition since 2002. Through it, Tulane strives to create a shared intellectual experience for the entering first-year class through the reading and discussion of a selected book. In this year's book, Asking for It: The Alarming Rise of Rape Culture and What We Can Do About It, author Kate Harding combines in-depth research with an engaging voice to make the case that twenty-first century America supports rapists more effectively than it supports victims.

Students will be given several opportunities to engage with the material through programming in the fall semester, including "Shifting the Paradigm" on September 22 with a keynote lecture by author Kate Harding.  For more information on the Tulane Reading Project, click here.
