Message From the President
Guy Hoppen
Yesterday was a busy day at the Eddon Boatyard, as most Saturdays are. Volunteers worked all day on T-Bird #11. The final coat of paint was applied to the Boatbuilder-for-a-Day Lake George rowing boat. BoatShop staff worked through some fundraising event planning details, and as usual, we were host to dozens of weekend visitors.
Today I helped my son Dale pattern, fit, and install some fish-hold bulkheads in his fishing vessel. It reminded me of why the Gig Harbor BoatShop at the Eddon Boatyard is a unique organization.
BoatShop personnel are rooted in the existing working waterfront. Volunteer instructors Tom Regan and Bruce Bronson are full time boatbuilders. Knot and ropework instructor Mike Boyle is a recently retired ferry captain. Store manager Sheri Lovrovich is from a fishing family and commercial fished for years. Susanne Regan manages the finances for the BoatShop, and for her family for-profit boatbuilding company. Volunteers Bill Isaac and Roy Fisk spent years as a working shipwrights.
We value our connections to the working waterfront and hope that the traditions we're an active part of will enrich a visitor's BoatShop experience.
Drop by the Eddon Boatyard to share your expertise, take a class, to see a movie - or just to smell the shavings and have a cup of coffee. Eddon Boatyard is, after all, your community boatyard.

GHB has Thunderbirds
Thunderbird #11 is in the midst of a volunteer makeover similar to #2 Pirouette's. Board member Jaime Storkman and volunteers Bill Isaac, Pat and Mike Ryan, and Dave Wheeler, to name a few, have replaced the bad wood with new wood and are prepping the hull, deck and house for new covering and paint. GHB's newest T-Bird addition, fiberglass Thunderbird #1002, is at the end of the dock. Volunteer Ed Josberger and help have gutted and scrubbed the interior. Like to get involved?
