Mother's Day is just around the corner on Sunday, May 11 ... a time when we honor our mothers, maternal bonds and the gift of motherhood.

Although I think about my mother, Carmella Rose Santalucia, year-round, Mother's Day is a very special day for me to recall the strength and dignity that characterized her life. She showed me that patients often need help navigating the healthcare system, and she inspired me to start the Carmella Rose Health Foundation 10 years ago. It's hard to believe that what began as an idea on a cocktail napkin has spanned a decade of assisting thousands of patients by connecting them to necessary health resources.
