Time to Roar: Stepping Out for Lupus Awareness Month
This issue of Lupus News and the May activities listed within it are dedicated to recognizing Lupus Awareness Month. 

What does dedicating a month to awareness of lupus actually accomplish? It seems that there are so many months dedicated to so many health issues and diseases. There are those that garner a large amount of national attention and recognition, those which have high profile celebrity spokespeople, extensive media campaigns, and those that are very well known in the public consciousness.

On your mark, get set, BID! Whether or not you're attending the annual Lupus Food & Wine Classic, you can participate in this year's new online auction. Winter is thrilled to be bringing together her love of yoga with her passion for raising awareness of lupus. And every class she teaches at Yoga Sol in the future will yield a donation to LFM. Joined by a host of celebrity friends and KFAN personalities, Cory will be playing recorded stories from folks affected by lupus, offering up donation incentives, auctioning off sports memorabilia and experiences, and having fun.

Dr. Parastoo Fazeli, Director of the Lupus Clinic at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, will discuss the risks involved with pregnancy in women with lupus. Participants will learn about proper monitoring and management, including the use of alternative therapy and the role of vitamins and supplements. Free, but preregistration is required.

Join us for a gentle introduction to yoga. You will practice a variety of standing and reclining poses (asana) and focus on breathing and relaxation techniques. Great for stress relief! Yoga can also help increase your flexibility and balance and help you learn how to be more present in your daily life. Class is free, but limited to six participants.
