When people think of the fight against lupus, they usually think of the long and winding path full of different hurdles that a person living with the chronic disease must learn to overcome. But did you ever think that one of those hurdles could be cancer?
Well, according to Nancy Walsh of MedPage Today, recent studies have shown that "children with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) had an increased risk for cancer, particularly for malignancies that were hematologic in origin." |

Bloomington support group leader reflections: living well with lupus

Just over 25 years ago, my mother died from complications involving lupus. She was a wonderful mother and a dear friend. Prior to her death and continuing to this day, I made financial contributions to the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota (LFM) in her honor.
But after her death, I felt a need to do more to honor her memory and all the volunteering she did in the community. I called LFM to see if they could use me as a volunteer, and I shared that I had experience in support group facilitation. They were overjoyed to have someone calling them to be a support group leader! Thus was born the Bloomington Lupus Support Group.

Your used goods and clothing benefit LFM
|
Even if winter still has a grip on us, is it time for a little Spring cleaning? Drop off your used clothing, household goods and unwanted items during the Strive for the Drive happening Saturday, March 22 at the Community Donation Center in the Unique Thrift Store in New Hope. This one-day event seeks to collect 10,000 pounds of gently used items to benefit the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota (LFM). Come learn about our programs and supportive services from LFM staff who will be onsite to talk with you from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items will be accepted all day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Call for volunteers: LFM group facilitator training

Are you interested in facilitating a community support and education group for people living with lupus? Groups meet across our service area and are designed to build connections, provide support and information, and promote health and wellness. LFM provides facilitator training, consultation, resources, and technical support. Our next training will be offered this spring. To get started or for more information, contact Sandy at LFM.
