Pray for Bermuda as They Brace for Hurricane Gonzalo

Donald King, Atlantic Union Conference president, the administrators, and staff invite you and members around the Atlantic Union and beyond to join them in prayer for the members and residents on the islands of Bermuda as they brace for Hurricane Gonzalo.

According to the news reports, Hurricane Gonzalo is a Category 3 major hurricane that is heading in the path of Bermuda. Conditions in Bermuda are expected to continue to deteriorate through this afternoon with hurricane-force winds (74 mph or greater) expected later this evening. Residents are bracing for the storm.

Bermuda is still recovering from Tropical Storm Fay which passed over the islands early Sunday morning, October 12.

The Atlantic Union Conference Adventist Community Services Department is closely monitoring the development of Hurricane Gonzalo as it heads toward Bermuda. Pierre Omeler, Atlantic Union Conference Adventist Community Services (ACS) director, is in contact with ACS and other civic leaders on the island and a teleconference is scheduled for this afternoon. According to Omeler, many Adventists in Bermuda have been trained for disaster response and the Atlantic Union Conference ACS department stands ready to assist in any way possible.

All 11 Adventist churches on the islands will be closed on Saturday, October 18, due to the impending hurricane.

Please keep the residents of Bermuda in prayer.

Ednor A. P. Davison
Assistant to the President for Communication
Atlantic Union Conference.
