RDA welcomes Josh Fox back to Williamsport with The Solutions Grassroots Tour!
Hello RDA Members,

This is an action-packed week for RDA, so we're sending out the newsletter a few days early. Please consider this issue your personal invitation to join in RDA's fundraising activities and educational opportunities.

Wednesday, March 11th, is the kickoff to Raise the Region 2015, an annual event hosted by the First Community Foundation Partnership that helps to raise thousands of dollars for local nonprofit organizations. RDA will again be participating in this 30-hour fundraising event which begins on Wednesday at 6 pm. RDA is hoping to receive some matching funds, and with your help, perhaps capture an additional $1000 prize.

We are asking RDA members to click on this link promptly at 6 pm on Wednesday, March 11th to make a donation of $25 or more. The first organization to garner 10 donations (minimum $25 each) wins an extra $1,000. Please help us out: https://www.raisetheregion.org/#npo/rda11

On Sunday, March 15th, the RDA will be hosting Josh Fox, Zephyr Teachout and the cast of The Solutions Grassroots Tour! This free-admission event will be held from 7-8:30 PM in the Clarke Chapel at Lycoming College. Join RDA in welcoming Josh back to Williamsport, and learning about ways to move to a sustainable energy future. After the concert, you're invited to join us for a private party with Josh and the cast at the Moon and Raven Pub, corner 4th and Williams Streets in Williamsport. The Pub will offer a limited menu and cash bar, including your favorite brew in an RDA "Keep it Wild" glass.

Finally, we want to be sure you have all seen RDA's new video, Zoning 101, written and narrated by RDA Board of Directors member, attorney Mark Szybist. A little over a year ago, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court struck down zoning provisions in Act 13 (Pennsylvania's 2012 Oil and Gas Act). The section declared unconstitutional by the state's highest court mandated statewide, one-size-fits-all zoning rules for oil and gas development. The past year has seen a flurry of zoning activity in municipalities trying to provide for gas development rights. In a number of cases, active, concerned citizens opposed to development in their neighborhoods are stepping up to protect their families, property values and quality of life. The video linked below is the first of a 4-part series RDA is producing to introduce you to zoning, and to enable you to participate effectively in your municipalities' zoning decisions.

Fracking Pennsylvania

More than 3 years ago, Walter Brasch predicted that the shale boom would begin to bust as early as 2015. Was he lucky - or did he know something? The answer is in his latest book, Fracking Pennsylvania, which looks at the history, the effects, and the future of fracking. Copies of Brasch's book are available at the James V. Brown Library, donated by RDA.

The Marcellus Shale Players

The Marcellus Shale Players is an ongoing, 5-year project of writer and researcher Dory Hippauf. It began with the simple question of "Who is...? The Marcellus Shale Players contains nearly 10,000 entries of who's who in the Marcellus Shale. Ever wonder what a hockey team owner has to do with shale? Who is the blonde spokeswoman in the Energy Tomorrow ads? What other connections does Energy Tomorrow have? Who is behind the ads? Who is running their public relations campaign, and what other connections are there? Explore the Marcellus Shale Players: follow the money and connect the dots.

Utilities Wage Campaign Against Rooftop Solar

Three years ago, the nation's top utility executives gathered at a Colorado resort to hear warnings about a grave new threat to operators of America's electric grid: not super-storms or cyber-attacks, but rooftop solar panels.
