"I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual...O how I laugh when I think of my vague indefinite riches. No run on my bank can drain it, for my wealth is not possession, but enjoyment."

AleBrewing It Up to Keep It Wild

Official Tapping Party
December 11, 6 to 8 p.m.
Riepstine's Pub
913 Arch Street
Williamsport, PA

Rock Run Red, Anti-Shale Ale, M.A.D. as Ale, Yellow Dog Brew--even White Admiral Ale named for butterflies found in the Loyalsock Forest--these were just a few of the creative entries submitted to RDA's contest to find a name for their newest fundraising venture, a locally sourced organic amber-style ale brewed by Riepstine's Pub. Many thanks to all who participated in the naming contest, and congratulations to Sherry Brotzman, who came up with the winning name, Old Logger's Ale.

On December 11, bring a friend and join RDA members at Riepstine's for the official tapping of Old Logger's Ale and to learn more about RDA's mission and what you can do to help. Festivities will include free hors d'oeuvres
and music by Doug McMinn. There is no cover charge for this event and Keep It Wild merchandise, including the new Keep It Wild pint glass, will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the sale of Old Logger's Ale and Keep It Wild merchandise will be used in the ongoing efforts to preserve the Loyalsock State Forest, specifically the Clarence Moore lands that are currently under threat of natural gas development by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and Southwestern Energy.

Old Logger's Ale is an amber-style ale whose official description says to expect a balanced beer, with toasted malt characters and a light fruitiness. In keeping with RDA' s ongoing commitment to the community and our planet, the ingredients for this beer included locally sourced hops grown in Jersey Shore and organic malt. This makes it unique to the local brew pub scene.

The recipe for Old Logger's Ale was created just for RDA and won't be brewed again, so is a very limited run. Only three barrels were brewed, equal to about 744 pints of ale. Word has it that these limited runs sometimes sell out within two months of going on tap, so why not join us on December 11 to join in the fun, learn about RDA, and sample Old Logger's Ale before the tap runs dry!

SkyTruthFracFinders Wanted!
Help Us "Skytruth" Fracking Ponds in PA!

SkyTruth needs your help! Last week, SkyTruth launched their second FrackFinder initiative, this time using aerial imagery to find all the pits and ponds associated with shale gas drilling in Pennsylvania. This study will be used by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to inform a study on health issues from air quality degradation and fracking.

This is one of many upcoming projects to use aerial and satellite imagery plus crowdsourcing to map fracking across the US.

Any help you can provide with this simple, web-based mapping project  would be greatly appreciated. It's a hands-on way for anyone to contribute meaningful data about fracking and get a bird's-eye view of drilling impacts.

   HikeKeep It Wild Hike #12
  The Haystacks

   December 8 at 11:00 a.m.

Hike with RDA to the Haystacks in the Loyalsock State Forest in Sullivan County. Named for the large rounded rocks in the Loyalsock Creek that resemble piles of hay, Jeff Mitchell, author of Hiking the Endless Mountains, says "The Haystacks hike is probably the most popular one in the Loyalsock State Forest. This hike is accessible, relatively easy, and incredibly beautiful."

Directions: Take US 220 north through Laporte. Continue approximately three miles, then turn left on Mead Road. Continue on Mead Road about 0.2 miles to the parking lot on the right. The 4.6 mile hike begins at the trailhead of the Loyalsock Trail. Estimated hiking time is 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

   Encore Screening

   December 4,  7:00 p.m.
   Coudersport Theatre

Public Herald will host a free encore screening of the documentary "Triple Divide" and a question and answer session with filmmakers Melissa A. Troutman and Joshua B. Pribanic on Wednesday, December 4, at the Coudersport Theatre in downtown Coudersport, PA.

"Triple Divide" is about how the impacts of "fracking" are being handled by the industry and state regulators. The film uses interviews, personal stories, experts and case files from public documents uncovered during an 18-month investigation as evidence for a compelling cradle-to-grave story. Narrated by Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo.

"With steadfast investigative journalism we see how a blindfold of misinformation is crafted by both state regulators and the industry," said Pribanic, who co-directed the film with Troutman. "People can expect to witness a side of fracking they've never seen before by watching 'Triple Divide.'"

The screening begins at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free to public w/ a $5 suggested donation. The show is being put on with help from Save Our Streams PA, a nonprofit focused on mapping and plugging abandoned wells.
