Western Pennsylvanians can literally breathe easier for a few more months since Shell delayed buying land for its proposed cracker plant for the second time.

Meanwhile, one family in Louisiana watched the siding melt on their trailer when a nearby gas pipeline exploded; other Louisiana residents living near the Bayou Corne sinkhole must decide whether or not to accept the buy-out offer from Texas Brine

Here at home in Pennsylvania, those with gas leases felt encouraged to hear about new legislation designed to shed some light on those troublesome royalty payments.

But those holding older leases soon found that a last minute week-end amendment gave the industry permission to pool leased properties whether landowners agree to it or not.

Senator Yaw, the Bill's sponsor, doesn't understand the fuss. He says that SB 259 will reduce the number of well pads and is therefore "an environmental piece of legislation."

A Thought for the Fourth

As we celebrate this Independence Day, let us reflect upon the words of the Declaration of Independence and ponder how they apply today to the many American citizens who now live with the impacts of the natural gas industry.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

GaslandJust Another Night in Gasland

  I drove up route 29 from a folk concert

  in the Old Lynn Church in Lemon, Pa.

  and saw silica dust in huge clouds and a frack crane to the right 

  of me

  and saw the pulsating lights of the flare in Brooklyn--

  it's 9:00 p.m.

  and on my way home through Montrose.

  I stopped and took a right on Davis to Stone Rd. off route 29 in South   

  Montrose

  and there was

  this huge frack site with massive clouds of silica dust

  and all the sand trucks and water trucks;

  took some video and told the young guard near the road to get himself

  a respirator and protect himself from the silica.

  He just listened and went back to his work;

  And I could see the orange, pulsating light on the other side

  and still could see it from my home in Laurel Lake, about 13 plus miles    

  away!!

  The scenes were reminiscent of my images of Hell and/or of aliens

  from another planet/dimension having landed and wreaking havoc  

  with our Planet.

 

  and now to try to sleep in my personal cave hiding from the Horrors 

  of Human Creation ...

The MarcellusGas.Org website was
created to provide easy-access
information related to Marcellus gas wells
in Pennsylvania. The site was launched 
in September of 2010 and continually adds new features to provide members with improved information tools and resources.

As fracking and its ancillary operations are gearing up across the country, we are seeing almost daily reports of high profile and high volume spills, explosions, accidents, deaths, and reported violations.  We thought that we would highlight a few to give you a sense of the destruction that fracking leaves in its path.

June 2013

June 25: A caller to the NRC reported a fire at an oil well near Ravenna, OH.  There were 150 gallons of oil released.

June 25: A 30-inch transmission pipeline exploded in Enon, LA, causing the evacuation of 55 people.

June 22: A water tuck owned by JB Oil and Gas ran a stop sign killing a mother and her 14 year old daughter.
