An Evening With Deborah Rogers RDA welcomes you to join Deborah Rogers on March 13 at the Williamsport Country Club when she presents her latest report "Shale & Wall Street: Was the Decline in Natural Gas Prices Orchestrated?" Recently appointed as a primary member to the U.S. Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, an advisory committee within the Department of Interior, Ms. Rogers will use her knowledge gained as a former investment banker and Wall Street financial consultant to present her findings on shale gas economics. Ms. Rogers is also the founder of Energy Policy Forum, a blog that presents informative and witty discussions on shale gas and renewable energy topics that vary from write-downs and impairment charges to Chesapeake Energy woes and John Hangar's upcoming gubernatorial run. With a versatile background that includes board membership with Earthworks/ OGAP (Oil and Gas Accountability Project), service on the Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and founder of Deborah's Farmstead, a premier artisanal cheese-making operation, Ms. Rogers' discussion on shale gas economics is sure to provide both an informative and interesting evening. |

Kudos to Cuomo
In a refreshing move that considers health impacts before drilling operations actually begin, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has chosen public health concerns over hydraulic fracturing. Gov. Cuomo based his decision not to drill in part because of the recently announced Geisinger Health Systems study. This million dollar study will use health history data to determine the effects of shale gas extraction on Pennsylvania citizens living in active drilling areas.
Gov. Cuomo's decision is said to have resulted from conversations with his former brother-in-law Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an active environmentalist who was recently arrested at the February Keystone XL protest in Washington D.C. Fortunately for New Yorkers, their top legislator understands that studies should come before, not after, a new industrial process is allowed to oversweep their homes, farms and forests.
Apparently the New York state Assembly agrees. In a 95-40 vote, the Assembly passed a bill on Wednesday in favor of a two-year moratorium on hydraulic fracturing. If successful in the Senate and signed into law, the moratorium will avert hydraulic fracturing until May 15, 2015, buying precious time for health experts to better understand the physical consequences of wide-scale shale gas extraction.

"It's unfortunate that civil disobedience is the only recourse against a catastrophic and criminal enterprise that will enrich a few while impoverishing the rest of humanity and threatening the future of civilization."
