E-Cycling Technical Innovations

We are seeing more and more technical articles on toxic elements entering the environment from processing e-scrap--along with remedies. Here are some examples from Elsevier.

Metal Toxicity in Mobile Phones is simulated using milli-q water as a leachant. Assessment confirms leached Pb, Ni, Zn and Se exceed hazardous waste thresholds and are dangerous to landfill. (Yadav et al)
Add "Reconfigure" to "Reduce-Reuse-Recycle." Reconfiguring adaptable circuits avoids obsolescence, enhances refurbishment and allows sustainability. Bossuet)
Using LCD Glass as Base Material for Waste Water Treatment effectively removes deleterious elements. 90% glass, 10% kaolinite mixture combined with a foaming agent forms glass foams (Chu Tai Lee)
Analyzing Ash From Cellphones For Toxic Compounds pinpoints opportunities to reduce impact of ecotoxicity in specific electronic components. (Hibbert & Oggunseitan)
Modeling Eddy Current Separation to Enhance Recovery of Nonferrous Metals from e-waste, with suggestions to improve crushing, separator design and separator operation.  (Jujun et al)
Separating Metals From Circuit Boards by Graduated Heat Treatment of crushed copper-rich PCBs. Lead and tin separate; copper becomes a collector for precious metals. (Cayumil et al)
