Recovery Started Before The Storm
By Tom Martin
Even as the East Coast braced for Hurricane Sandy and as preppers prepped, the Texas-New Mexico Power company (TNMP) was well on their way to prepare for recovery with their convoy of utility vehicles heading eastbound on I-40 in Tennessee. Help is on the way!
As preppers, what have you done to be ready for recovery?
If you were properly prepared, you are already in your safe location, have your important papers handy and all of your gear and supplies on hand. But preparedness doesn't stop there. You need to also be ready for recovery.
- It is often claimed that a chainsaw is the most important tool after a disaster. Do you have one?
- If you are staying in a shelter, have you notified your friends and relatives of where you are?
- Have you tended to your pets and children? Prepare them for the eventuality of a lost home, time away from friends, relatives and school. Play games with your children to help take their (and your mind) off of stress.
- Be ready to make claims with your insurance agent. Take lot's of pictures of your damaged property.
- Do not return to a disaster area until you have been cleared by authorities to do so.
- Volunteering. If you have skills or training for disaster recovery then provide that help whenever possible. If you don't have those skills but still wish to volunteer then only do work that the authorities ask you to do. Other than that, stay out of the way of other workers and volunteers. Let them do their jobs.

The APN Partners with
ILC Dover to present their SCape™ Mask
For the first time in our history, The APN has formally partnered with a company to bring their product equal status and coverage as ourselves. This isn't something we do lightly. We have reviewed ILC Dover extensively and have been testing their SCape Mask for well over a month! After researching the SCape Mask as well as other options on the market, we have found their product to be unquestionably the best option on the market and have decided that it is in your best interest for us to fully endorse and stand behind the SCape Mask. It just so happens that they are also the same company that produces the M-40 mask, the gas mask that the U.S. Military uses. As an aside, it is also interesting to note that among many other things they are also the company that produces the spacesuit that our astronauts use. This is not a one-off company that just popped up!
The SCape Mask is the only mask available to civilians that protects against viral, biological and radiological airborne threats and carbon-monoxide.
This means that not only will it protect you from the airborne threats you're used to thinking about, it will also protect you in a house-fire. Donning the SCape Mask will allow you to safely gather your family in the event of a house-fire without risking problems from smoke inhalation, the number one killer in house-fires. It has a positive pressure design that creates a bubble of fresh filtered air for you to breath which makes it easy for a child or elderly person to use as well as someone who is unconscious. The self-sealing design also allows it to be placed over an animals head to protect your pets.
The APN fully endorses the SCape Mask and strongly recommends that every Prepper Household invest in at least one for their home if not one for every member of the family.
Here is our official video introducing the SCape Mask and our partnership with ILC Dover:

Build a brick rocket stove for $6.08
By
Leon Pantenburg
If you can stack bricks, you can make an effective biomass rocket stove. The materials are cheap, and usually readily available during a disaster. Most importantly, it is a very simple survival skill to learn.
In the aftermath of a natural disaster such as an earthquake or tornado, there will probably be a lot of biomass and wood debris laying around. Suppose you have to boil water or cook, using whatever materials are available.
If you can salvage some bricks, you can make this stove. It is simple to build, and is easily fueled with bits and pieces of wood debris or biomass. It is sturdy, so the top will hold heavy pots and pans easily. It is also very fuel efficient, and works under a variety of challenging circumstances.
If you like playing with Legos, you'll love this project!

GOFoods knows Good Food
Growing up as two sisters from the south, Barbara and Brenda learned how to save for a rainy day. Their dad provided his family with groves of oranges as well as pastures of livestock while their mom taught them the principles of canning and food storage. After many years of searching for food that could offer the good taste and health benefits the two sisters had grown up knowing, they finally found GOFoods.
