Greetings!

Our February meeting was excellent. The subject of domestic violence was timely with the Violence Against Women Act having been passed by the Senate but not the House yet. We passed a resolution asking that the Act be brought to a vote and sent the resolution to Speaker Boehner. I doubt we had that much influence, but the Act passed 4 days later!

Democratic women are active this Spring. There are many events going on around the State. Be sure to read our Save the Date section.

Please join us at our March meeting at the Democratic State Central Office in Hartford on March 14th at 6:30 PM. The guest speaker will be East Hartford Mayor Marcia LeClerc. Our topic for the meeting is getting Democratic women to run for local offices. An important subject as all politics start locally!

NFDW Convention
Message from the WV Federation

The National Federation of Democratic Women will be hosting their annual meeting in Charleston, WV on June 12-16th 2013. NFDW represents Democratic women from all over the nation. As our numbers grow, so does our ability to effect important change. This is an exciting time for women in politics.

West Virginia will be hosting the event in Charleston and we have chosen the theme:

"DEMOCRATIC WOMEN.... THE HEART OF THE PARTY....53% AND COUNTING"

In the Election of 2012, women made up 53% of the electorate. Not only were women decisive in re-electing President Obama, but they contributed to the record number of women representing Congress.

53% and counting means we need to keep it going and that is exactly what we intend to do.

  • We are counting on you to continue to register voters and get them to the polls.
  • Counting on you to encourage women to make their voices heard in their communities.
  • Counting on you to run for office or help recruit women in your area to run.
  • Counting on you to help raise money.
  • Counting on you to educate women and voters on important issues like health care, Medicaid expansion, pay equity.
  • Counting on you to get involved and one of the best ways to make that happen is attending the annual meeting of the NFDW and get to know women from all over the United States.
  • It is a great way to share ideas, learn new techniques, and develop goals to reach within your own clubs.
The registration form can be downloaded at the NFDW website: NFDW website
