CFDW Statewide Meeting held on Feb 4th
"The State of the Unions"

Our February meeting was a great success. We had a luncheon meeting at the Gelston House in East Haddam.
"Lori J. Pelletier, Secretary-Treasurer of the Connecticut AFL-CIO, spoke on "The State of the Unions." Her emphasis was on the interdependence of unions and the Democratic Party. The benefits won by the labor unions were for all, not just union members. Today, the unions are fighting to preserve the results of those struggles. " (quote from minutes written by Aleta Looker)
Lori Santos from the Shoreline League shared about their February 1st meeting with speaker Judy Tabar, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. The meeting fell on the Wednesday when the Komen Foundation declared it would cut off funding to Planned Parenthood. We had a spirited discussion about this newest assault on women and an appreciation with social media's influence on the reversal of that decision.
