The Women 2 Women Recruitment Campaign is our opportunity to make a difference in the 2012 election.
Let's get Democratic women involved.
Let's WIN!
Greetings!

Happy New Year to all our fellow Democratic women. 2012 is now here and this is a vital election year. As the Republicans are fighting each other in their state primaries, we need to start our grassroots work now. We need to re-elect President Obama, elect a Democratic Senator and re-elect all of our Congressmen. Our local State Senators and Representatives are up for re-election as well. Now that we have a Democratic Governor, we have to make sure we keep our Majority in the State Capitol. And we can't forget our Registrar of Voters who work diligently all year long so that we are able to vote!

Let's get going~
CFDW Statewide Meeting on Feb 4th
"The State of the Unions"

Gelston House

We will hold our next statewide meeting on Saturday Feb 4th at 12 noon at the Gelston House in East Haddam. It is close to Route 9 and a lovely spot by the river. Lunch will be ordered off of the menu. We hope to have most of the place to ourselves, being in the middle of winter! Please click on the link for the menu and directions. Gelston House

Our guest speaker is Lori J. Pelletier, the Secretary-Treasurer of the Connecticut AFL-CIO.  "In her capacity as Secretary-Treasurer, Lori serves as the state labor federation's chief legislative advocate, representing the AFL-CIO at the Connecticut General Assembly on workers' issues ranging from workers' compensation and unemployment compensation to corporate accountability and workers' rights. Lori  helps direct a wide range of activities for the AFL-CIO, such as political action and education, organizing, local coalition-building and community services."

Don't miss this exciting presentation about the "State of the Unions" and how the unions' issues are the Democrats' issues too!

On our agenda will be review and possible action of change in the bylaws regarding "at large" memberships.

Please RSVP to Liz Duarte by 2/1/12.

The NFDW convention will be held in Louisville, KY from Thursday May 31st to Sunday June 3rd. Thursday is a day of sightseeing organized by the Kentucky State Federation. Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning are the actual dates of the convention. It is a wonderful time to be with fellow Democratic women and to get truly  inspired for the upcoming elections. Go to the NFDW website for the latest information on the convention. The Brown Hotel (click on name to go to website) is an historic beautiful hotel. It will be grand to stay there!

Southwest Airlines is presently showing fares to Louisville for $149 one way out of Hartford; Providence Airport is $187 one way.

Consider joining us, it is great fun. Even my husband Paul enjoyed the evening social activities, especially when he was singing with the women from West Virginia!

Women 2 Women Recruitment Campaign

Our project to reach out to Democratic women new to our area or not having been involved with our clubs, has begun. Belinda Jones, our Campaign Committee Chair, along with Penelope Bellamy and Stephanie Farber, from the Hilltop Brigade, are going to local clubs to help them get started with the program. If your club is interested in reaching out to Democratic women to increase membership and develop our volunteers for 2012 election, please contact Belinda Jones at sbjones20@comcast.net

The Shoreline League of Democratic Women has been working on this project since September. Their members are calling over a thousand women and have already increased their membership while getting Democratic women excited about campaigning.

The Groton Club will be hosting a kick-off to the campaign on Monday January 16th from 5-7 pm at the Groton Inn and Suites.

The Cheshire Club scheduled Belinda Jones and Penelope Bellamy to speak at their next meeting on Saturday February 11th at 10 am.

Our clubs are already making a difference!
Thank you~
