Message from the Chair
I'm at a loss for words as I think about the tragedy in Orlando this past weekend. With some pundits and even candidates trying to capitalize on this horrific event, I would just like to offer that this isn't the first-nor is it the last-reminder of the need to continue to fight against fear, intolerance, and injustice. The Larimer Dems send condolences and wish the best for the families of those who were lost or injured in the attack.

Legislative News
New Law Seeks To Help People with Disabilities Find Employment
On June 10th, Gov. Hickenlooper signed SB16-077, Employment First for Persons with Disabilities into law. The bill, sponsored by Sen. John Kefalas, Rep. Joann Ginal, and Rep. Diane Primavera, will shift policy to remove barriers that keep individuals with disabilities from being employed.
"This bill hinges around the assumption that all people with disabilities are capable of meaningful work," said Rep. Ginal.
Currently, about 80% of individuals with disabilities are not working in Colorado. Some individuals with disabilities who are employed work in segregated settings where they earn less than minimum wage.
Ginal Bill Means More Doctors for Rural Colorado
On Monday morning, Gov. Hickenlooper signed a bill by Rep. Ginal that will help expand access to primary health care providers for Coloradans who live in rural and frontier areas of the state.
Frontier and rural areas are the most remote and sparsely populated places in Colorado, with residents often living far from healthcare services. As a result, these communities experience reduced access to health care services and poorer health outcomes.
This bill creates a tax credit to help encourage "preceptors" - teachers - to offer professional instruction, training, and supervision to students seeking careers as primary health care providers in rural and frontier areas of the state.
"Preceptors are key to expanding access to quality health care in Colorado," said Rep. Ginal, D-Fort Collins. "By providing this tax credit, we are encouraging more medical students to work in rural and frontier areas and expanding access to quality care across the state."
Be sure to check back next week for more bills sponsored by Larimer Dems recently signed into law.
