Message from the Chair

Greetings!

Colorado primary election ballots should be arriving in your mailbox starting this week. While there are no Democratic primaries this year in Larimer County (as you know, Colorado doesn't have a presidential primary), we still encourage everyone to take a look at your ballot, re-familiarize yourselves with your candidates, vote for them, and then contribute to their campaigns.

Of course, we are all excitedly awaiting the results of the Republican U.S. Senate primary, a race that has been quite the spectacle as of late. Be assured, though, no matter who wins will have the backing of millions of dollars from the Koch Brothers and other secretive third-party groups, who are already launching false attacks against Senator Michael Bennet.

General election season is just about upon us, so get ready to help your favorite Dem candidates win in 2016.

Thank you for supporting the Larimer Dems!

James Thompson, Chair

Ginal Bill Means More Doctors for Rural Colorado

On Monday morning, Gov. Hickenlooper signed a bill by Rep. Ginal that will help expand access to primary health care providers for Coloradans who live in rural and frontier areas of the state.

Frontier and rural areas are the most remote and sparsely populated places in Colorado, with residents often living far from healthcare services.  As a result, these communities experience reduced access to health care services and poorer health outcomes.

This bill creates a tax credit to help encourage "preceptors" - teachers - to offer professional instruction, training, and supervision to students seeking careers as primary health care providers in rural and frontier areas of the state.

"Preceptors are key to expanding access to quality health care in Colorado," said Rep. Ginal, D-Fort Collins. "By providing this tax credit, we are encouraging more medical students to work in rural and frontier areas and expanding access to quality care across the state."
