Message from the Chair

Greetings!

Thousands of Dems from across the state braved the rain and snow this past weekend to come to Larimer County for the state convention.

Thanks to all of our Larimer Dems who volunteered, and thanks all of the volunteers and state delegates who came to show their support for their presidential candidates, who nominated Michael Bennet as our Democratic candidate for Senate, and who elected national delegates to the DNC in July.

After the primary we will all work hard to elect our Democratic presidential nominee, but right now we can start working to get Senator Bennet and Congressman Polis re-elected.

To that end, the Colorado Democratic Party will begin organizing this month throughout the state, and they need your help to find supporter housing for their staff right here in Larimer County. If you or someone you know has supporter housing available in Fort Collins, Loveland, or nearby, please contact me at chair@larimerdems.org for more information.

Thank you for supporting the Larimer Dems!

James Thompson, Chair

Cracking Down on 'Rolling Coal'
A bill by Reps. Ginal and Max Tyler to prohibit the practice known as "rolling coal," which is knowingly and intentionally blowing thick clouds of black smoke in order to harass pedestrians, bicyclists, or other drivers, passed out of the House on a 35-29 vote this morning.

"The city and law enforcement of Fort Collins asked me to introduce this bill," said Rep. Ginal. "Over the last several years, we've seen an increase in people intentionally 'rolling coal,' but under current law it's really difficult for police to take action."

HB16-1319creates a Class A traffic infraction for the "intentional exhibition of smoke."

The bill proceeds to the Senate for consideration.
