Message from the Chair

Greetings!

In an annual post-session tradition, Governor Hickenlooper has been traveling around the state on a bill-signing tour, and last week he was in Fort Collins to sign two bills with John Kefalas and Joann Ginal. You can read more about it below.

Also, thanks to everyone (including non-Democrats) who came to New Belgium on Sunday for Rep. John Kefalas's campaign kickoff. It was a great start to John's last campaign for Colorado's General Assembly.

Thank you for supporting the Larimer County Democratic Party!

Protecting Children While Preserving Families

DENVER -- Sen. John Kefalas, D-Fort Collins, worked on behalf of families during the legislative session.  And today, Gov. Hickenlooper, D-Colorado, signed a bill Sen. Kefalas sponsored into law, which will continue the state's Differential Response Pilot Program as a permanent program. ... Participating counties would be able to handle cases of low or moderate severity through strategies such as using family or community support systems, as opposed to going straight to a potentially adversarial court intervention. (read more...) -- Colorado Senate Democrats

Hickenlooper Signs Ginal Epipen Bill
(MAY 14) - Gov. John Hickenlooper traveled to Fort Collins this afternoon to sign Rep. Joann Ginal's bipartisan bill allowing more organizations like summer camps or youth sports leagues to keep a supply of epinephrine auto-injectors or epipens.

Right now, only schools are able to keep a supply of epipens, which provide a dose of epinephrine to counteract anaphylactic shock caused by a severe allergic reaction. HB15-1232, also sponsored by Rep. Lois Landgraf, R-Fountain, allows a summer camp, college or university, day care facility, youth sports league, amusement park, restaurant, business, or sports arena to store a supply of epipens after receiving a prescription from a doctor.

"This common-sense law will ensure more people that have an allergic reaction can receive care immediately instead of having to wait for a paramedic to arrive," Rep. Ginal said. "This bill has the potential to save lives."
