VMP Speaks Up for Mentoring at Advocacy Day

VMP staff and AmeriCorps VISTA members visited the Virginia General Assembly on January 20th to raise awareness about the benefits of mentoring. We are grateful for the support of Delegate Betsy Carr, who spoke from the floor of the House to recognize National Mentoring Month and VMP's role in promoting quality mentoring programs across the Commonwealth. Want to add your voice? Reach out to your legislator and show your support of mentoring!
Recognizing the Value of National Service

In January, VMP staff and VISTA members attended Governor Terry McAuliffe's announcement of Virginia as the first state to be recognized as an employer of national service. VMP is proud to support our VISTA cohort in their professional development. Thanks to Governor McAuliffe, First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe, and CEO of CNCS Wendy Spencer for recognizing the skills and dedication of AmeriCorps members and alums!

Celebrate Mentoring at the Virginia Mentoring Awards & Conference

On March 19th, VMP will host the Virginia Mentoring Awards and Conference at the Jefferson Hotel to celebrate outstanding contributions to mentoring. This year, VMP will recognize Tim Grimes, with  AMP! VMP Staff Attend Workshops at National Mentoring Summit

Last month, VMP staff and VISTA members attended the National Mentoring Summit in D.C. with representatives from other mentoring programs around the state--and with almost 1000 mentoring supporters and advocates from across the country. Our staff attended workshops focusing on the latest research, program techniques, and best practices for mentoring partnerships. We spent a full day on Capitol Hill, meeting with Virginia legislators to educate them on several bills that would advance the mentoring movement in the U.S. For the next two days, keynote speakers and panelists inspired us to expand the mentoring effect, and affirmed our work to help close the mentoring gap for young people in our communities.
