State of Mentoring in Virginia Highlights areas of Need
At the Virginia Mentoring Awards, VMP released the
which highlights the need for mentoring in some areas of the state. The report also indicates that more than 1,300 young people are on formal waiting lists and that 71% of youth waiting for mentors are young men. VMP will use these findings to proactively provide services to mentoring/youth-service programs in areas of high need and provide training to mentoring program staff in the area of mentor recruitment and program evaluation.

Happy Spring from the Virginia Mentoring Partnership!
Like many of you, the VMP staff has been doing some spring cleaning around our office. Have you considered "spring cleaning" for mentors or mentoring programs? Taking time to assess your program or mentor-mentee relationship this spring can help you understand how you're making an impact and identify areas for growth and improvement.
Mentors! Need a listening ear or new mentor-mentee activity ideas? Contact Dwayne Bennett, VMP's Trainer and Mentor Support Specialist for ongoing support in your mentor-mentee relationship.
We look forward to hearing from you!

VMP Welcomes Corey Humphrey!
What are you most excited about or looking forward to in your work with VMP?
I've been blown away by the team of dedicated people that I've joined at VMP. We have a smart, dynamic group here and everyone is clearly passionate about their work. VMP is an exciting place to come every day because this energy is apparent and powerful. I can sense that VMP's Board, volunteers, and the AmeriCorps VISTA members that we place at programs around Virginia share the same passion about our mission and vision.
I'm also looking forward to helping increase brand awareness for VMP around Richmond and in other parts of our commonwealth. I enjoy being involved in the Richmond community and building new personal and professional relationships, so I believe I am in the perfect role to help raise VMP's profile and reputation in the Richmond area and beyond.
What are some things you like to do outside of work?
I have a wonderful group of friends in RVA that help keep me energized outside of work. I enjoy staying active so I play on an indoor soccer team, a touch football team with a group of friends, and have done Seal Team PT off-and-on for several years. I also play some guitar on my own and host an occasional informal jam session with a few friends. Otherwise you'll find me at one of the many RVA festivals, farmers markets, or trying out the newest restaurant in town.
Corey, we're glad to have you on our team!
