Webinar: Preparing States for
Diabetes Action Plan Legislation

Diabetes is a big concern for state legislators across the country. In 2010, 19 million people in the United States had been diagnosed with the disease. In addition, diabetes cost the U.S. $245 billion in 2012. This webinar will bring Marti Macchi, senior consultant for diabetes with the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, and Dr. Connie White, deputy commissioner of clinical affairs for the Kentucky Department for Public Health, to the table to discuss how states can implement their own diabetes action plan legislation. Macchi will provide a national perspective on using the plan to guide states' action on diabetes prevention and treatment. White will discuss how the Kentucky planning process prompted the collaboration of state agencies--such as Medicaid, the Department of Public Health and the Personnel Department--to develop an action plan to curb diabetes across the entire state population.
