While ice & snow is limiting the watersport for some of us, it is time to remember the past season, be it in conversations, photos, or - with the help of Fine Art.
Susanne Westphal from Hamburg, who has been painting sailing sceneries for many years, has presented her first 5.5m pictures during the recent Hamburg boatshow and at the winter reunion of Yachtwerft Glückstadt.

If you would like to see particular regatta action reflected in a painting, you can find more information, on her susanne-westphal.com website.
During the Boltenhagen Championship races in September, Nils Bergmann has been on the water to catch sailing action onto digital media. After having been the official 5.5m photographer for the German Open in 2008 and during the Boltenhagen "Champions Week" 5.5m Test-Run in 2009, he has again delivered 5.5m on-water impressions - altogether Pieces of Art, as well.

For the festive season, Edmund Berndt from Austria is sending his best wishes for the new year and sailing season.

Whether you are into the Fine Art of painting, taking pictures, designing boats, building them, stitching/glueing sails or just harvesting enjoyment from these activities, I do wish all of you a good holiday season and I am sending best wishes for the New Year!
Yours,

The programme for the mid-July German & Dutch Open in Berlin is out on vsaw.de and it is possible to register online. Those owners, wishing to combine two 5.5m Class events in Berlin, are welcome in mid-May to "Willi Lehmann Preis" - also here the online registration on wsv1921.de is open. The German 5.5m Class Association and the Clubs involved can arrange storage or in-water places between the events. As the both registration texts are so far in German only, please contact the German 5.5m Class Association for assistance. Boats 4 Sail
In recent months, quite a number of 5.5m boats have changed hands and well known active regatta sailors have joined the Int. 5.5m Class. Speaking in Stock Exchange terms, the recommendation now reads: BUY! The offer of used boats is limited and prices could be on the rise. Please contact the International Class, for information on boats which are looking for new ownership, in order to see these boats racing again:
Not all of these boats are officially advertised, but known and the Class is keen to see the boats placed in waters where they will find suitable competitors, age- & speedwise.
And then, there is always a chance to consider a new one. With currently more than 5 design options to choose from, chances for gaining speed by new developments are on the table.
