New Destinations

While the 5.5m racing calendars already offer a wide range of exciting locations to race at, we do step forward adding new places.

The most recent one had been Curacao, where the local fleet is now preparing for the next "Heineken Regatta", to be held from the 11th to the 13th of November. The International Class is looking at the option to add further races, including an International event, maybe for 2013.

In Europe, Swiss sailors have come up with the idea to race in St. Tropez in autumn time and the initial response from our friends in France is positive. We will be working out the details and then come up with proposals.

In the end we do only have a limited number of weeks & weekends available and want to avoid competition which is reducing starting fields at other important International 5.5m races. We will carefully look at numbers of participation and might set up minimums for holding Open National Championships from 2013 onwards.

Next year and for the first time, 5.5's will be participating in the Vintage Yachting Games, which is offering regattas for old Olympic Classes every 4 years. For the 2012 edition to be sailed on Lago di Como in July, the Class will be nominating boats matching the pre-1968 5.5m Rating Rules, an important group of boats which otherwise is not racing in International 5.5m events, thus giving them a unique opportunity to meet.

In the upcoming months it is promotion time again in Europe, with the boatshows opening their doors; an excellent opportunity to present our boats to active regatta sailors. The start-up show is the hanseboot show in Hamburg, Germany, from the 29th of October to the 6th of November. You will find the 5.5m stand in hall A4 on D472.

A good opportunity to meet and make plans for the next season. Be Welcome!

Yours,

Kaspar

Italy

Another Classic has moved to Italy, the former FIN 25 will now been sailing in the Gulf of La Spezia, in the Mediterranean as 5.5 ITA 29. Another boat might be added to the Lake of Garda fleet, shortly.

The recent growth of the class in Italy has led to the following presence of boats. We certainly hope to see more boats racing in a near future.
