The Season Is Starting - Look, Who Is Joining The Races

The entry lists of the early 2011 races of the International 5.5m Class are filling up and the 5.5m Inventory is the perfect platform to have a look at the competing boats. Pictures, data, stories and history can be found in this growing 5.5m database and contributors of information and images are both active sailors and those who have been enjoying the class in the past.

Also very important is the fact, that the 5.5m Inventory is more and more becoming the virtual ambassador for the class and its boats. Most new contacts which we are getting, are coming through this website and thus helping to grow the class activities. Several of these contacts are turning to become new boat owners.

Have a look and enjoy the 5.5m Inventory (www.5.5inventory.org)

Speaking of the next races to come, there are the Alpen Cup , with so far 13 Modern entries (www.circolovelatorbole.com/it/regate/iscritti.asp?rid=55) and the ROLEX Trophy with so far 7 Classics & 3 Wooden Evolution (http://5point5class-ita.weebly.com/). As you might want to show up at the races with the latest 5.5m fashion, please pass by the International 5.5m SHOP (http://www.5.5class.org/the-shop/the-shop.html).

Most of the 5.5m boats are already fully covered in the Inventory, but for some of them images, the information about their home harbour location, material of construction and race history is missing. Presenting actual ownership data and actual measuring certificates is at the discretion of the owners.

If you have boat information and images in your cellars, archives and computer drives, please help to enlarge this site and in this way get the word about the class around. Just get registered and pass your data to the Inventory.

If you wish to help the Inventory to further improve by contributing to the funding of the site, the class if offering "Sponsor-flags" on the Starting page, whose size is equivalent to the contribution amount chosen. Further details can be provided.

Thanking you in advance, I do wish all of you an exciting racing season and remain,

Yours,

Kaspar

Netherlands

Geert Bakker, PR manager of the Dutch 5.5m Class Association and owner of 5.5 NED 12 "Topaze" www.5.5inventory.org/NED/012 informs:

  • After a few years of not gaining new members and the sale of a few boats, we have 2 new members and future racers aboard! The spirit is very positive in the class and we all look forward to the races in 2011.
  • I introduced in 2010 a new 5.5 class event at the Westeinder with a variety of 'alternative' races (anything but up & down). The 2010 version was a success, not only because of the good atmosphere, but especially because of the different style of racing and racing tracks. I expect to organise this event every year at the Westeinder, thus becoming a tradition.
  • The combined 2012 - 2013 German-Dutch Open in the Netherlands and Germany (2012 in NED, 2013 in GER) starts to be a hot topic in the Dutch fleet.

The Dutch 5.5m Racing calender for 2011 has been released and is expected to be showing up on the Dutch 5.5m website (http://www.5klasse.nl/Vereniging_5.5_Nederland/Home.html), soon.
