Indoor allergens are biological or chemical agents which usually cause allergenic reactions in susceptible individuals.
Tampa, FL -- Microbes share both the indoor and outdoor environments with us each and every day. They are ubiquitous in nature and are all around us. We are exposed to these entities 100% of the time. Oftentimes, these animate creatures go unnoticed; however, on occasion they can adversely affect our health. For this discussion we will focus on the indoor environments of which we spend 90% of our time.

EPA Warehouse in Washington Tainted with Rat Feces, Mold ...halted work with the contractor... |

WASHINGTON - A government agency's watchdog says a storage warehouse rented by the Environmental Protection Agency in suburban Washington for $750,000 was tainted with rodent feces, mold and other problems.
The EPA inspector general's report released Monday also found that contract workers charged with protecting the warehouse and its contents were using government-owned exercise equipment and watching television in "hidden personal spaces" outside the range of security cameras.

MADISON, Alabama -- Four women work together in a small building in Madison. They begin to behave strangely, developing nosebleeds and coughs, complaining of constant exhaustion. They appear to forget words, at times seeming to lose track mid-sentence.
They begin to blanket doctors' offices. Three of the women have gall bladder surgery the same year. One of them, Sandra Payne, says she went to the doctor 26 times in her final year in the office. Two are eventually diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

EPA Fines Lenexa Company For Lead Paint Use |

LENEXA, Kan. - A Lenexa company has been fined about $27,000 for failing to follow federal rules on lead paint.
The Environmental Protection Agency said in a release Wednesday that HarenLaughlin Construction Co. will pay $27,286 for not using required practices for lead paint while renovating a multifamily building in Kansas City, Mo.

EPA: 4 Bay Area Counties Have Increased Levels of Radon Exposure, One of Top Lung Cancer Causes |

Tampa, Florida -- It's one of the top killers in the U.S., and while we know smoking and second hand smoke cause lung cancer, there's another one you may not have considered.
Radon is a naturally occurring gas found in soil and construction materials. Five to 15 percent of lung cancers are attributed to radon exposure.
According to the EPA, four counties in our viewing area have moderate potential for increased levels -- Hillsborough, Polk, Sumter, and Citrus.
