While mold is considered an asthma trigger and risk factor for exacerbating asthma, new research links three mold species to childhood development of asthma, according to a study by University of Cincinnati researchers.
Infants in homes that had higher values on an index screening for 36 molds were found to have an increased asthma risk.

Visible Mold Forces Recall of NJ Pharmacy Injection Drugs |

A New Jersey compounding pharmacy has temporarily shuttered operations after Connecticut hospital officials reported finding visible mold in bags of a vital injection drug.
Med Prep Consulting Inc., of Tinton Falls, agreed to stop making and shipping medications after recalling all lots of all products -- including the magnesium sulfate intravenous solution that sparked concerns starting last week, Food and Drug Administration officials said...

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting health care providers and patients of a voluntary nationwide recall of all lots of all products produced by Med Prep Consulting Inc. of Tinton Falls, N.J., a specialty pharmacy licensed by the state of New Jersey. The recall was announced after health care providers at a hospital in Connecticut observed floating particles, later identified to be a fungus, in five bags of magnesium sulfate intravenous solution.
The magnesium sulfate products may have been distributed to additional facilities in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Until further notice, health care providers should stop using all products made by Med Prep Consulting Inc. and return them to the company.

Mold Mingles Among Residents |

While Spring Break kept most students out-of-town or at home with their families, a form of fungi vacationed at the University's Quadrangle.
During the break, the executive Director of Student Housing and Residential Life Don Yackley received a report about a room with discoloration in the bathroom that appeared to be mildew and mold. Upon notification, housing inspected all rooms in the Quadrangle area.
