The difference between a capital expense and business expense is in the words "repair" versus "renovation". A "repair" saves the value of your home and is a necessary and ordinary expense, while a "renovation" adds value. Mold removal is considered a repair since it does not add value to a home.

 

Washington - With tax season approaching fast it is timely to ask: What does mold, taxes and death have in common? The short answer is all three can put you six feet under. As we all have known death and taxes are life and inevitable, we now know that mold is also inevitable simply for the fact that it is ubiquitous in nature and all around us and in some extreme cases can kill us depending upon the exposure. The good news is if you haven't died from mold exposure you may be able to write off part of your experience on your taxes.

Fourteen Columbus Police Officers Exposed to Mold, Chemicals at Marijuana ... after being exposed to mold and house grow chemicals ...

Fourteen officers with the Columbus Police Department reported exposure to harmful mold and house grow chemicals while executing a search on a suspected marijuana grow house on Woodlawn Avenue on Feb. 23, according to a police report released Tuesday morning.

 

The group of officers, who included three sergeants and one corporal, searched a house on the 3900 block of Woodlawn Avenue on Feb. 23 at about 11 p.m. Their investigation led to the arrest of two men and one woman after officers found 54 marijuana plants, according to an earlier report.

LEGIONELLA BACTERIA FOUND AT TRAM DEPOT

The deadly legionella bacteria has been discovered at Edinburgh's tram depot - less than a year after an outbreak across the city killed three men.

 

Traces of the pathogen were detected in a washing unit used to clean tram carriages at the Gogar terminal, sparking an immediate purge of the equipment.

 

The affected area was sterilised by independent water hygiene specialists and the council claims there was no risk to staff or members of the public at any time. It is understood the legionella bacteria...

KNOXVILLE - University of Tennessee students at a privately-owned, off-campus apartment complex in Knoxville are complaining of mold and mildew in their units.

 

It's a large complex, only four years old, but apartment management claims what students see is only moisture.

 

Molds are part of the natural environment and are usually not a problem indoors unless mold spores land on a wet or damp spot and begin growing.

CHINESE DRYWALL MDL JUDGE APPROVES $10 MILLION STATE COURT SETTLEMENT

NEW ORLEANS - A $10 million settlement of state court Chinese drywall claims filed on behalf of a Florida condo association has received approval from the judge overseeing the federal coordinated Chinese Drywall docket.

 

Judge Eldon E. Fallon of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana signed an order Feb. 25 approving the deal with defendant Bovis Lend Lease (Lend Lease) that was finalized in Palm Beach County Circuit Court last November.
