PIERMONT - The money has stopped flowing. But the mold keeps growing.

 

Nearly three months after Superstorm Sandy sent roughly 8 feet of water gushing into their basement, James and Veronica Artrip have struggled to remediate and rebuild their Piermont Avenue home.

 

The family received a $10,000 emergency check from the Hartford Insurance Co. that paid to replace a hot-water heater and rewire the basement.

The FINANCIAL -- Water damage in a home, office or school, can result in property damage, structural damage and even create an indoor environment that can be dangerous to people's health.

 

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), "Molds are very common in buildings and homes and will grow anywhere indoors where there is moisture. The most common indoor molds are Cladosporium, Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Alternaria."

Mold Risk Prompts Fisher-Price to Issue Recall ...mold is not present at the time of purchase, mold growth can occur after use of the product.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Fisher-Price, has announced a voluntary recall.

 

Consumers should immediately inspect the Newborn Rock 'n Play Sleeper and stop using it if mold is found.

 

Units currently in retail stores are not included in this recall to inspect. There are about 800,000 units affected by the recall.

Meningitis Outbreak: NECC Blames Cleaners

The pharmacy at the heart of the fungal meningitis outbreak says a cleaning company it hired should share the blame for the tainted steroid injections that caused more than 600 illnesses in 19 states, killing 39 people.

 

The New England Compounding Pharmacy, which made the fungus-tainted drugs, sent a letter to UniFirst Corp., which provided once-a month cleaning services to the Framingham, Mass., lab, "demanding" it indemnify NECC for the meningitis outbreak, according to a UniFirst filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
