Warning on Mold in Some Fisher-Price Rock `N Play Infant Sleepers Mold is associated with respiratory illnesses and other infections.

WASHINGTON -- The government is warning consumers to inspect Fisher-Price Newborn Rock `N Play Sleepers due to risk of exposure to mold for infants who use them.

 

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday that its warning applies to 800,000 infant recliner seats, called sleepers, that were sold at stores nationwide and online since September 2009, with prices ranging between $50 and $85. The seats, designed for babies up to 25 pounds, feature a soft plastic seat held in a tubular metal rocking frame. The product has a removable fabric cover.

A Florida man has been charged in Madison County in a mold-removal scam, according to a news release today from the Madison County Sheriff's Office.

 

On Nov. 6, Bryan Merritt, 41, of Pensacola, Fla., a representative from Clean Indoor Air LLC, spoke with Yvonne New at her home in the 100 block of Butler Road in Pinson, concerning mold removal, the release said. Merritt stated that he would remove the mold and prevent any future developments.

Radon Testing of Homes Urged

Health advocates are urging New Brunswickers to have their homes tested for a potentially dangerous and cancer-causing gas.

 

About 25 per cent of homes in the province have radon levels that exceed national guidelines, according to a two-year Health Canada study.

 

That's higher than anywhere else in the country, the study shows.

 

Radon exposure is the second-leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking, said Barb MacKinnon, of the New Brunswick Lung Association.
