Honestly, until about five years ago, I had no idea that cleaning products had any effect on people or the environment. I am not an avid environmentalist, but I do believe that we have a responsibility to leave the world in at least as good a shape as we found it. In addition, I feel that when environmental concerns impact worker productivity, we all need to start paying attention.

A letter entered into court records identifies for the first time several factors that may have caused an outbreak of Legionnaire's disease in Miami Valley Hospital's new 12-story patient tower shortly after it opened in late 2010.
The outbreak, at the time the largest in Ohio in seven years, sickened at least 11 patients. State health officials tied one death to the outbreak.
The hospital sought in court to have the letter removed from a civil case stemming from the outbreak, but a Montgomery County judge rejected the request last week.

Levels of formaldehyde in Bay Area day care centers exceed state safety standards, according to a new report from UC Berkeley researchers.
The report was funded by the California Air Resources Board and examined 40 day care centers in Alameda and Monterey counties. Researchers from the university's Center for Environmental Research and Children's Health examined indoor air quality and floor dust samples. Thirty-five of those centers had levels of formaldehyde that exceeded state safety standards. Formaldehyde is an eye, nose and respiratory irritant as well as a carcinogen.
