A survey performed by the Environmental Diagnostics Laboratory of Clearwater, FL reported that Staphylococcus aureus is also a part of an indoor environment's bacterial flora.
Clearwater - Deferred maintenance not only impairs the overall HVAC system efficacy thus causing unnecessary breakdowns, but it also creates an increase in the potential environmental hazards oftentimes creating a facility manager's worst nightmare. Recent building closures in universities, schools and office buildings have been traced, in part, to the mechanical system operation and maintenance and the poor environmental conditions that exist within them. One emerging organism is Staphylococcus aureus which has been isolated within the evaporator coils of HVAC systems.

by the CNN Wire Staff
A Chicago hotel has closed and drained its pool, hot tub and fountain in response to the deaths of two people who contracted the flu-like Legionnaires' disease, authorities said Monday.

by Kate Traynor | ASHP.org - Pharmacy News
BETHESDA, MD -Federal officials on October 18 announced that the black mold Exserohilum rostratum was detected in sealed vials of methylprednisolone acetate produced in August by the New England Compounding Center (NECC).
The mold was found in vials from lot 08102012@51, which contains 80 mg of methylprednisolone acetate per milliliter of preservative-free solution and was recalled, along with two other lots of the drug, on September 26. Testing is in progress on the two other lots, according to FDA.
In the wake of the outbreak, which has sickened 271 patients in 16 states and caused 21 deaths, NECC has recalled all of its products. FDA on October 4 advised health care providers to avoid using any product made by the company.
