NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF May 13, 2015
Cathedral Domain Summer Camps are Coming
L ast week, several priests and deacons throughout the diocese gathered in Prestonsburg and Hazard for days of service and relationship building. On Monday evening, the people of St. James, Prestonsburg shared a meal and stories of the blessings and challenges of life and ministry in Floyd County. On Tuesday, clergy served at St. James' Food Pantry, assisted at The David School (an alternative school in David, Ky), assisted in the St. James' Thrift Store, conversed with students at Big Sandy Community and Technical College regarding realities of being students in rural Kentucky, and another group served at the Hazard Community Ministries shelter and food pantry. On Tuesday evening, all gathered at St. Mark's, Hazard and toured the parish and heard from parishioners about the hospitality St. Mark's provides to those who are struggling with narcotics addiction and support of their families with the Narcotics Anonymous and Nar-Anon (for family support) hosting that occurs there and following, St. Mark's parishioners joined clergy for dinner in Hazard. On Wednesday, clergy got to view and experience how the landscape of Eastern Kentucky has been affected by Mountaintop Removal.
