NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 1,
 2014
Focus on Gifts, Ministry, and Recovery at Ministry and Gifts Fair

You are welcome and wanted at this year's Ministry and Gifts Fair on November 15 at Emmanuel Church, Winchester.  We will enjoy a number of workshops with a myriad of topics; so there will be something for most everyone! Our keynote speaker is The Rev. Stuart Hoke, Th.D.

Stuart is an Episcopal priest and widely sought after teacher of the Twelve Steps of Alcoholic Anonymous. He has taught courses on both the role of churches in responding to addiction and recovery and the spirituality of the Twelve Steps at General Theological Seminary and in the wider church. Stuart has served as a priest for Trinity Wall Street and pastor for St. Paul's Chapel in downtown New York City.

Father Hoke will also be offering workshops on the spirituality of the twelve steps and how our parishes can be a part of responding to addiction and recovery.  Other workshops will include how the church can be present in a social media age, engaging in prison and jail ministry, effective vestry practices led by Bishop Hahn, calligraphy, writing in a Christian context, journaling, dream interpretation, engaging young adults, ministry with the children of Guatemala, spirituality and older adults, how a parish can connect with community youth through mentoring, and more!

The cost is $20 and registration begins that day at 8:30, with opening worship, keynote, sessions, and lunch going from 9:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

If you have questions, please contact Elise Johnstone (elise@diolex.org) or Lauren Villemuer-Drenth  (lauren@diolex.org).

Kentucky Council of Churches Assembly
The 67th Kentucky Council of Churches assembly will take place at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Lakeside Park, Ky on Oct. 24th and 25th. Our own Elise Johnstone will be inducted as the 1st Vice President of the Council at the assembly. This assembly will honor groups who have worked deliberately in the area of Civil Dialogue, the theme of last year's assembly. The Diocese of Lexington and her Leadership Team will receive an award at this assembly recognizing our work in the area of civil dialogue around a topic that touches the lives of many Kentuckians-the issue of coal. Our diocese has sponsored two community dialogues around coal; one at our diocesan convention in February 2014 and another last month at the Episcopal Appalachian Ministries conference in Morehead.
Clergy and Diocesan Staff Fun Day
All clergy, diocesan staff, and their families are invited to join us on Saturday, October 18 for a day of fun at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, KY. The day starts at 10 AM with a self-guided tour of Shaker Village. Join us by the pond at 11AM for Morning Prayer. Included in the day are craftsman demonstrations, musicians, hiking, and a ride on the Dixie Bell Riverboat at 2 PM. Lunch is on your own. Bring a picnic lunch and eat by the pond, or make a reservation at the Inn at Shaker Village. In addition for children, the farm animals will be out to pet, there is a hay caterpillar to climb on and they can try their hand at butter churning.
