 The story of St Patrick's Episcopal Church in Somerset began in 1891 as Christ Mission under the Diocese of Kentucky and in 1895 when Kentucky was divided into two Dicoceses the congregation being in the eastern portion of the state became a part of the Diocese of Lexington and remained active until the congregation ceased to exist in 1920 due to finances of the time and lack of a resident priest. However the desire for an Episcopal witness did not die but lay dormant until Phoenix-like it surfaced and rose in 1956 through the faith and commitment of Ed and Mary Ann Boss, Hugh Fuller, Dr. and Mrs Hill, along with the Irwins, the Axons, Sally Cain, Ron Mallory and Mrs Cooper. On my drive from Lexington to St Patrick's Somerset I passed a church sign which said, " The first Valentine was sent by God". I didn't catch the rest, but you know what it said, "I love you. Will you be my Valentine?" For many of us our formal "yes" to that question began at the font, but our movement to the font was preceded by intention-ours, our parents or guardians. God's love was already active calling us to the water and to be marked as Christ's own forever. Read more

In the week ending 2/8/2014, the bishop represented Christ, his Church and you in the following ways:
- Visited St. Raphael's, Lexington, including confirmation, adult formation, and meeting with vestry
- Visited with people St. James, Prestonsburg to see vandalism damage, share a meal with leadership and parish, and celebrate the liturgy, "Restoring of Things Profaned"
- Meeting with Standing Committee to preview Convention
- Meet with Cathedral Domain Budget Committee to address future challenges
- Diocesan Budget Committee planning Diocesan presentation
- Several meetings with priests and laity on issues of Stewardship, and strengthening congregations
